Dead Soxy Special: Francona Extended by Red Sox Brass

Don't think this deserves an entire article, but ESPN is reporting that the Boston Red Sox have extended manager Terry Francona through the 2011 season. Francona has led the Red Sox to three playoff appearances, a division title, and two World Series Championships in his first four years as manager. He holds the highest postseason winning percentage in baseball history among managers with at least 20 games managed in the playoffs.

Great move by the Red Sox. Francona has learned a lot, and has developed into a good manager. I like the way he has managed the team now, and I hope that he will be able to do the same for a few more seasons.

Francona is one of if not the most underrated and underappreciated managers in baseball. And he's a super nice guy as well.
