This may stir up some controversy, and I can think of reasons why we don't do this but...

Why don't we rank users? We can rank their blogs and vote on their comments and opinions, but we can't rank them like players or teams?

I can think of reasons why we don't, but does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Not that I want to reinvent the wheel here or anything, but I think rating articles rather than just voting on them could work to the site's advantage. Or this has been talked about numerous times before and I've missed it during my biweekly hiatuses (why isn't hiati like cacti?).

Most people don't take frequent hiati so I guess the plural form doesn't get much attention. And why isn't bus bi?

I think I have one purely by chance, because I used the Player Profile template that you'll find on the wiki pages of everybody, Tom Brady for instance. The quickest way to make the voting available on everybody's page was to put the voting in the Profile box. As a result, I ended up with it there.
