Can someone answer this?

The government is investigating steroids in baseball... why? What do they have to gain? Is HGH against the law? If Clemens lies, he goes to jail for perjury. If he doesn't lie, then what? Who cares? Why is the government focused on this when there is a war going on, the economy is plummeting, and the important issues are far from being solved? What business does the government have in sports? Who cares? Oh, did I ask that already?

I don't understand how this could go to court? Did Clemens break the law (not baseball law, but like government law)? What does it matter if his wife was infected or not? Why would it matter? Am I the only one who doesn't understand this whole thing? Can anyone help me?

And finally, Who gives a fack?

I wish I could tell you Falcon but I am at a loss. I reckon that the politicos figure this is a high profile case that will buy them some traction with their constituents. Me? I couldn't give a flying feck. The issues you outlined are much more worthy of their attention.

1. HGH is illegal without a doctors perscription, and only in a few places

2. They want to break down the supply lines for these drugs, and want to know how McNamee got the drugs.

3. Were talking about illicit activity involving a very high profit corporation. It's a big deal. the MLB is bringing in a lot of dough, and if they're doing it because of something illegal, it's bad.

4. If either of them are found to have lied, they go to jail. They both testified under oath that they hadnt

well, I need to add a question then... why is hGH illegal?

For the same reason any prescription drug is illegal. It is not Illegal as a whole, but it is illegal without a prescription. Why is Vicoden, Viagra, and Pennicillin illegal to purchase and use without a prescription?

I find it hard to believe someone should be going to jail for cheating in baseball. This entire hearing was a joke. Waxman is clearly out to get Clemens, and if any congressmen attack McNamee's obvious stupidity and the fact that he is BSing everyone, the chairman defends him. McNamee seems like nothing more than a goon, and the smart remarks he makes and his body language make that very clear. I don't care who's telling the truth, I think this is a waste of tax dollars.

Now the chairman is making my point clear that he has already made up his mind that Clemens is lying.

This is a joke...

If someone were to go to jail, it would be over a perjury charge for lying to Congress, not for cheating in baseball.

Its about the perjury charges. The congressional hearing was formed to look at government over site and yes the steroids issue falls under that allbeit loosely. The problem is the there are legal documents that have people on both sides under oath giving testimonies and there are obvious loopholes.

I'd agree that a lot of it is more to use this as a test of the system to fix the loopholes and to deal with the perjury charges. It gives them a high-visability issue that has legal issues to check for any loopholes

but why do they need to question them in the first place? why are there legal documents about this? it is like a someone setting you up to test you and see if you fail or not

This particular hearing came about because Clemens swore that Brian was lying and by doing that he claimed that the Mitchell report (a government document) was false.

BigP is absolutely correct.

Today's "very special episode" courtesy of ESPN was only conducted because Clemens vehemently denied McNamee's statements recorded in the Mitchell Report.

Even during the post-hearing press conference, his (Clemens) own attorneys made it no secret that this was not their preferred "course of action".

Yes, I'm aware that it is about perjury... now. But essentially, if someone like Clemens or Bonds went to jail, it would be over cheating at a game.

McNamee has nothing to gain and everything to lose by lying. He was told up front if he lies he goes to prison for a long time. No trial, no negotiation, no plea bargain. From the courthouse to the bus to the jail.

Brian McNamee is absolutely aware that he is a potential star witness for the Federal Government should any criminal prosecution stem from potential perjury charges. He damn well knows that if any information he provided to Mitchell and/or the Federal Government prove to be FALSE, then he will be buried with charges himself.

Let's just end this nonsensical debate right now so we all can make better contributions to the site for the rest of the day.

Clemens is retired, baseball can't touch him, so all he's doing is trying to avoid ending up like McGwire and Palmeiro. The only ass Clemens cares about is his own.

Clemens is a liar. Period.
