Wait a minute, I thought the trade deadline passed already?

Or was this a "restricted" trade?

Waivers.

Team puts in a claim....

a) team can pull him back

b) claiming team has 48 hours to work out a deal. Red Sox claimed Brian Giles last week, he declined to waive his no trade, so the Padres pulled him back.

c) once Reds accept claim offer, it becomes just like any other deal.

Am i the only one who thinks the D-Bags didn't give up a whole heck of a lot (guess it depends on the players named later)

Eh, they didn't get a whole lot either... He's the Dave Kingman of his generation (minus the being "a complete asshole" part)

Adam Dunn strikes out a ton of times. It's all or nothing with him. They do get some power, but their overall hitting dosen't really improve.

It's not really all or nothing. He's 2nd in the NL in walks and his .373 OBP is nothing to sneeze at. You combine that with his power (leading the league with 32 HR) and you've got an offensive force.

I don't think it's fair to say that he's all or nothing. Sure, he strikes out a lot, but who cares? It's no different than a flyout or groundout.

Their overall defense definitely doesn't improve, he's a butcher out there.

A strikeout is different then a ground out or fly out.

A ground out or fly out would indicate that he put the ball in play and therefore at least has a chance of reaching base or moving a runner along with a fielder's choice or sac fly.

A strike out has no production or positive result ever.

"A strike out has no production or positive result ever." - tell that to A.J. Pierzynski and/or the 2005 Angels.

True, putting the ball makes things happen: there are no sacrifice K's, catchers don't make many errors on K's and fielders have a few choices to make on K's.

Strikeouts however, do tend to wear pitchers down. Pitch ocunts are higher when you don't pop out on the first pitch!

Dunn isn't just a butcher with his glove, he's also a taxidermist.

Oh and Manny, terrible timing, but naturally now that your pretty much good as gone from PHX my girlfriend wants me to consider moving there with her. So much for golf dates and shooting the shit, I'll have to do that with Kelsdad! ;D

I haven't moved yet...

But I don't golf, either. If I hit a ball, someone ELSE is chasing it!

Oh and LASB, terrible timing but if you move to PHX from LA for a girl, you're an idiot. You better make sure she's REALLY worth it... this is a GREAT place for single people, BAD place for those planning commitments and long-term relationships and a HORRIBLE place to raise kids. It might be the repressive life-sucking heat of Monsoon Season talking (it's not) but I'm just saying...

Advice I will certainly heed. It's partly her, partly the west LA living cost making me want to break down. And the other option she finds okay is Santa Barbara - ya I want to move BACK to a place MORE expensive - but we shall see.

Phoenix is ok if you hate air conditioning, enjoy branding yourself with your seatbelt buckle on a regular basis and speak really poor Spanish fluently (Not textbook Spanish by any means)...

The rest of the state (minus the mining towns) is beautiful but PHX is going to shit in a shit handbasket. Scottsdale is superficially superficial beyond logical comprehension and the rest of the PHX suburbs are good for counting liverspots and blue hairs.

What does all this mean? When I kick my kids out of the house and retire (again), I'll be back! =)

Also - If you have decent tagging skills or an eye for quality graffiti, you'll be let down by the overwhelming onslaught of REALLY crappy paintwork here... there's nothing worse than getting your house tagged by a gangmember that can't even spell his gang's tag correctly.

The graffiti back east and what I saw in L.A. revolves around a certain volume of pride and artistic expression. Here it's just blobs, drips and runs with no coherence or method. Illiterate taggers make for retarded tags. Who is gonna know whose territory they are in when you can't even form characters or symbols? My five year old can use a spray can better than some of these fools. Who is gonna be scared by a wannabe thug who can't even use a spray can with some ability?

Kids today... I tell ya!
