Bend over Comcast users

Starting October 1st, Comcast will cap internet use at 250GB.

Look, I'm an avid netuser. I streak netflix, love MLB.tv and I've utilize downloading services. I'm a bandwidth hog no doubt. But this is bullshit.

If you have a complaint, your best bet is to try the FCC (even though it's probably a longshot.)

Even the berating was a close one. The final tally was 3-2

This is why I switched to Verizon FIOS. Comcast has no interest in the residential customer. They know that when push comes to shove, they are the only choice in many neighborhoods. FIOS came to Pittsburgh early this year. Comcast just had to layoff a number of employees in the area last month. I didn't even know if Verizon would be better when I switched, but I figured it can't be worse. Now I get NFL network, Big Ten network, a cheaper bill and truly unlimited internet.

Well, it looks like they'll soon be able to keep traffic flowing easily when their customers switch to other companies.

That's the point, not everyone has a choice and most times the choice is worse. Cable companies are set up worse than the phone companies are. They are big conglomerates with mini-monopolies. If Comcast had to compete with Time Warner, Cox, and Charter all at the same time you would not see crap like this and you would not have to pay extra for the NFL Network.

My dad lives in CT, about 150 miles from Boston. The local Comcast outlet wouldn't carry NESN so he could watch his beloved sad sacks Red Sox. Their reasoning? Their area of CT had a higher percentage of Mets fans!!

So, by court order, the cable company surveyed all the customers who had purchased the MLB Season Ticket package, and it came back overwhelmingly in favor of the Red Sox, so they sued Comcast, and won.

So, my dad finally gets his Red Sox, and Comcast apparently sucks nationwide.

Comcast SportsWest has carried the CFL for years. They get the national feed from AmericaOne. Yet, they decided this year to neither offer the games on CSTV nor on a mini-sports package. I so dislike their service, but have no other to go to for TV.

Exactly. I can;t understand the FCC. Somehow a merger between the two satellite TV providers would be a monopoly but a merger between the two satellite radio providers isn't. Although I suppose real competition would not matter because I have yet to hear anyone say anything good about any Call Phone company.

And this is why I miss my Oceanic Time Warner I had in Hawaii. And Pip and I could throw a rock from our condo to the Verizon substation in our town, and yet we don't get FiOS (but the rest of the town does)

FiOS is fiber optic cable and it has to be laid to the premises--it doesn't just piggyback on existing copper wire. I would guess that you can't get it in your condo even though the rest of the town has it because your building has an exclusive contract, probably with Comcast? My father-in-law works for Verizon in Dallas with the group rolling out FiOS. I talked to him about it last weekend and he said that they are waiting for all of Comcast's many exclusive deals with apartments and condos to run out before they can do anything. Once that happens, it should be up to the tenants.
