Belichick's Post-Game Actions

Posted by Rawbeezeitz

I didn't really pay too much attention to the Super Bowl after the incomplete pass on 4th & 20. I guess I pulled a Belichick, going outside and having a cigarette with 0:01 on the clock. I know he's gotten a lot of criticism for leaving early.

Since this site is full of Patriots haters, I'd just like to know, from your perspective, why was this considered a big deal? To me, it seems silly, and it seems like a coach conceding defeat, but I like Coach Belichick.

So why was this a big deal?

Anyway, what kind of coach would walk onto the field even though he knows there is still time left on the clock? I know he knows the game was over, but I guess he just wanted to get this "losing" thing over it. That was a total classless act, I believe that should result in a fine.

Just to be fair, both coaches walked onto the field... everyone did because nobody that was there was aware there was :01 on the clock

Look, the Giants were confused as hell....Belichick on the other hand....notice the referee trying to tell him to get back on the sidelines....he would have none of it.

But saying "that was a total classless act," how was it so totally classless?

If he had any class, he would've let the clock hit :00 after the Manning kneel down, run onto the field, shake hands with Coughlin and other players. Instead, he trots onto the field with :01 left, and does a half assed handshake with Coughlin.

But why is it that if he had class he wouldv'e waited? I'm not saying it was a classy thing to do, I'm just perplexed as to why it's been deemed classless.

It's 1 second, he couldn't wait that long? He wanted to just get it over with....on the other hand, he probably would've done the same thing if the Pats won.

Again, obviously it wouldn't take much for him to stay put for one more play. It was a strange thing to do. But how was it classless?

He couldn't facking wait until the game clock read :00? The guys that stayed on the sidelines for the Pats were the really classy ones....like Tedy Bruschi. Just curious, where the hell was Mike Vrabel in those goal line situations? :)

I know about the NFL. And I understand that it isn't normal, what Belichick did, but I'm still waiting for this classlessness to be explained. Was Coughlin classless for going out to meet him? Or was that classy? Or neutral?

Who went onto the field first? The Giants didn't know what the heck to do, but Bill had his mind made up.

I'd love to see the video of this because it will show the clock at :00 and show a ton of people walking out onto the field as if the game was over. Because the game was over.

Pip and Raw, he was told by the Refs that they had to finish the game, that is what is pissing people off. Now, I don't have a problem with it, but the way you put it Pip, you'd think Belichick was just an innocent bystander. BELICHICK KNEW HE WAS SUPPOSED TO FINISH THE GAME. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you will know why people are mad. Like I said below, I disagree with the NFL's decision, but don't pretend like Belichick didn't know they were going to run one last play. But he left the field like a little brat anyways. That's why people are mad, because he could take his own medicine.

Try telling any coach in Belichick's situation that he has to run that last play and see what happens. He'll say the clock struck zero.

The clock hit zero. He, and like a thousand other people thought the game was over. He walked to midfield and did what anyone would have done, shook the other coach's hand and leaves. The clock was f'd up the entire last 2 minutes of the game. The ref could have just run the clock out, and frankly HE is the one to blame for all of this. There is such a thing a sore winner. I think I'm seeing some, and they aren't even really giants fans. Stop taking this away from the Giants and their fans. The Giants did something very special and pissing on Belichick over nothing only takes away from what they did.

Please show me a single quote in the media where Belichick came off as a sore winner at all during this 18 game winning streak? We'll set aside the running up the score argument for now. Because no coach complained about it after it happened to them.

I LOATH the Pats and Bill B. in particular, but I saw nothing wrong with him walking off the field. In fact I was actually upset that the NFL insisted the final second be played. To me that was the classless act. I don't feel bad for all the flak he got afterwards, but that doesn't mean I agree with it.

I will try and give a Patfans style response to this question:

"If you don't like playing the last miserable second of the game then they should have stopped the Giants from scoring"

Sorry, I couldn't resist. The whole making them watch the last miserable second of the game made me think of how the Pats ran up the scores in some of the regular season games. Karma I guess.

Hmm.....so Belichick has more of a free pass according to you guys, than Randy Moss who did the same thing (only heading to the lockerroom), when the Vikings lost.

I'm not saying he gets a free pass. I'm just trying to figure out why what he did was considered classless. And the only explanation I can see is that he's Bill Belichick, therefore what he does is classless.

I don't think it would be a big deal if it was a regular game, they wouldn't of even ran the last play. But because it was the super bowl they had to run the last play to make it offical. So that's the only reason it was a big deal, because it was the Super Bowl.

When the clock strikes 0:00, then you walk onto the field to shake hands. Period, end of story. Belichick is a great coach, but one of the worst losers I've ever seen. People would kill to have the type of career that he's had. {5 Super Bowl rings!!} We've seen him pull this same nonsense with Eric Mangini. Belichick had a great opportunity to display class considering the season his team had, and he let it slip through his fingers. Cut and ran and left his team on the field, just like he did the Jets. Not that I noticed though, I was too busy jumping all over the house in euphoria.

To me, it's not so much going for the handshake early, but the fact that the refs told him to go back and run his last play, and he just took his team and walked off the field. You know I'm a Pats fan and I thought that was a bullshit move. You have to have respect for your opponent and let them finish the game.

Again, I'm waiting for an answer to why what he did was considered classless.

The clock went down to 0:00, he went out onto the field, the clock went back up to 0:01, he decided to shake Coughlin's hand anyway and leave. Why is this classless?

Had he simply left, without going to see Coughlin, then I'd say it was classless. If the clock was at 0:01 when he went out onto the field, then maybe I could see that as classless.

I see in this situation that the time keepers made an error (one of many, that clock was facked up all game), and it caused a whole lot of craziness on the field. Belichick decides that one handshake was enough, so instead of repeating what he already had done, he left. Now people everywhere are attacking him for this.

I'm just trying to understand the argument that what he did was classless. I've yet to see an answer. All you guys have done is say "what he did was classless, he could've stayed on the sidelines."

So...?
