BOS @ CLE, ALCS Game 5

Josh Beckett (BOS)
VS.
C.C. Sabathia (CLE)

(2-0, 1.20, 0.49
(1-1, 10.61, -0.34

The Boston Red Sox try to stave off playoff elimination and post their ace, Josh Beckett, who has been lights-out so far this postseason against the Angels and these Cleveland Indians, who counter with an ace of their own, C.C. Sabathia. Sabathia did not fare well against the Red Sox in game 1 of the ALCS, but he's a fantastic pitcher and will most likely pitch much better here in game 5.

That wasn't too bad of an inning for the bottom of the lineup. Varitek had a decent plate appearance, although he swung at some outside pitches when he was ahead in the count. Why does it seem like we're swinging early in counts then taking late in counts (when behind)? That last pitch to Crisp was a horrible non-swing with 2 strikes.

Nice hit by Manny, even though none of them mentioned it. He got jammed and nearly hit it over that bizarre outfield wall. You have a wall out there, and if it hits part of it on the top, it is in play, if it hits the rest of it on top, it is a homerun. And people make fun of Fenway's design.

It was the right call, but don't you think that is a strange thing? To have a theoretical top of the wall, then the rest of the top of the wall isn't really there in terms of ground rules?

Ground Rules are different at each park... Chase field (and several others) has yellow lines BEYOND the Centerfield fence that are NOT in play. The yellow lines are there so the ball can be seen in contrast, not neccessarily a defintion of "in play"
