Associated Press to Set Standards for Use of Articles by Bloggers

Posted by JuTMSY4

The Associated Press is going to release their guidelnes on what is accepted use of its articles for bloggers.

This is important to you because:

A) Many of you (myself included) cite or utilize associated press articles

B) The Associated Press is a co-op owned by over 1,500 Newspapers who will most likely adopt a similar measure. Odds are much of the information you use that is related to current periodicles will be impacted.

Take note. This isn't a bad thing per se, but just a matter of writers protecting their own works. As always, your common sense is still the best guideline. When in doubt, always be sure to give credit.

This really is not a bad thing. A lil bit of regulation wont kill blogging. Also it is good that people will be able to get the credits that they deserve

I am sooooo tempted to quote this article.

But I won't.

Honestly, I think the AP sending letters because 39-79 words is very nitpicky, but if it's 90% of an article then that is different. I think they're trying to head into the right direction in doing this, as long as I don't get letters because I put in 39 words from the AP.

They did backtrack hard from that and this is a result of the Drudge retort issue. We'll see, it may or may not be a bad thing and if it is bad the courts will be dragged into this issue and it will get settled. I hope they understand the medium they are dealing with...we will see.

Again i dont think it will be a bad thing at all. It should work out pretty well in the long run even if it is a lil bumpy to start with

I usually rewrite what I read so hope that is OK and never copy and paste any article word for word.

As some of you know, copyright law is a big interest of mine. I'm happy to see that AGM has been exceptionally reasonable in this thread. :)
