ArmchairGM User Awards?

I think this is a good idea, DNL, Pean, earn your paychecks and get to work.

I think is a really good idea. A little something to shoot for.

I like it. I wouldn't win, but it'd be cool for other people to do. And Romi would most likely win about 12 of them.

Ok, I did remember that it had been done by Ufgators and BigPpup once upon a time, but I also found that it had been suggested by Patrickburke1980 on April 25, 2007.

Though I admire their idea, Ufgator's and BigPpup's awards were handed out by them, not voted on by the other users, and when Patrick suggested the awards, we did not have our message boards.

Now, with our message boards, we can easily -- and privately -- nominate and vote for the users using a board blast from whoever decides to run with this and sets it up (although I'll probably be nominated for that distinction since this thread is mine).

...and so begins another losing streak in the history that is called my life!

This had been done (usually poorly) many times. There are too many users that go in and out and too many newbies that don't know everyone for it to really work.

This is awesome! I nominate myself for comments and articles, maybe rookie of the year.

Wow, AGM becomes more and mroe like highschool every day. When is the yearbook coming out?

Thanks, guys, for recognizing me. I really think this is a great idea though, and Alex has talked about this before (AGM User awards). I would like to collect stats starting next year, such as records for editing, comments, etc. per year. Would that be cool, or would I be going too far?

Great idea, what would be the qualifications for AGM Rookie of the Year? Just curious, but I would agree with you that Romi deserves Rookie of the year.

If it wasn't for Romi, I'd be a shoe-in for Overseas User of the Year... :( I would like this, especially if it was set up in a formal way (i.e. a special section was set up), because then you could use the same templates/methods/codes (I assume) for the Generic Yearly Sports Awards I keep reminding you about. The ol' "Kill two birds with one stone" effect.

To "commemorate" the older users, you could name awards after other users. E.g.

• Roblefko Award for Best Editor
• Xinoph Award for Best Article Spellchecker
• Bball3345 Award for Best Statistically Based Article
• Alex Holowczak Award for Contributions to Sports that Nobody Has Heard of
• ASwaff Award for Best Beat Writer (He was the Texas Rangers "beat writer" more than a year before the phrase was coined.)
• (suggest name) Award for Best Article
• Manny Stiles Award for Best Comment
• Lockness Monster Award for Remaining Anonymous
• Pnatt Award for Vandalism
• (suggest name) Award for Worst Grammar in an Article

And so on and so forth...

The MetsJetsDevils Award for Most Negativity to New Ideas.

The DNL award for beefing up points just to catch up to Roblefko, before failing at the end.

The SSreporters award for US soccer bashing articles. BTW, I've given up on writing US soccer articles positive or negative.
