ArmchairGM Mock Draft?

Posted by SSreporters

This has been an idea swirling around in my head recently. What about a large community ArmchairGM (2 Rounds) NFL Mock Draft? Here is what I have in mind....

Each NFL team will be assigned multiple people. That's where you get to play the GM. Make trades, look at first option, look at 2nd option, trade up, trade down, trade sideways.

The draft will take place around March, after the NFL Combine. That way we know which team will be in which drafting position, which player had their stock rise, which player had their stock drop, and the eligibility to declare for the draft has been completed. So you better study hard, look at your team's biggest needs. Communicate with other members, negotiate deals.

Then on mock draft day, I'll have a thread set up for all ArmchairGM people involved in this project. Here are some guidelines to follow:

1. You must be committed to this. Message me if you cannot make it.

2. All trades must be made on your message boards....and they must be private, then you can announce your deal in the comments section.

3. Draft selections will be made in the comments section of the thread, and you have a 12 minute limit for your pick.

4. Trash talk!

Any questions folks?

Update: For now, I'm looking for sky as the limit as the maximum, but 2 as the minimum for each team.

32 x 8 = 256...I think that is good enough.:)

Update Deux: MJD makes a good point, as long as you guys discuss trading picks, a 1st round guy can trade up or down with a 2nd round pick.

If you do this, I'll set up a section for it. However, I suggest that you not limit the # of war-room participants to two people. If 50 Browns fans want to decide how to spend their first round pick (snicker), that's pretty cool.

That's fine, I still want to put a limit on it so we don't have an overflow. :)

I would be willing to do it, and I would select the Jets. However, how do you divide trade powers between 1st and 2nd rd partners?

Those collaborating on the first round will have rights to trade their first round pick, and second round partners trade their pick only.

hmm, what if a first rd guy wants to trade up by using a 2nd rd pick?

Fantastic idea. Could one person do more than 1 team? For instance, I'd like to be a part of the Patriots and 49er war rooms... not because I necessarily count myself a fan of the 49ers as much as I am intrigued by their position from a GM point of view.

Or you Alex. I don't know enough about college players to have any idea of what I was doing. Thanks for the vote of confidence though.

It sounds like fun, but I can't really commit any future time at the moment and this looks a little time consuming. But I like where your head is.

If I wanted to trade a current player and a draft pick for either a player, a draft pick, or both, could I? In other words, am I just restricted to the draft picks as far as trades go?
