ArmchairGM Golf Course Polls
Golf Magazine frequently publishes a list of the "Top 100 Golf Courses of the World." Unfortunately, it is an American publication, and the world appears to be very US-focused.
However, I thought it would be a good idea to do our own.
I spent ages agonising over a format, and I seem to have come up with something akin to the old format for the Speedway World Championship. It's very complicated, but here is a brief explanation of what would happen.
We would make use of the poll facility to pick the course out of 5 that you think is the best. Depending on the results of the poll, certain courses advance to the next round, etc. until you get to a Final. Here is a breakdown of the rounds:
Round 1
-
Ten "divisions" and the top 2 in each advances to Round 2.
-
Six divisions, with the top 2 advancing to Round 2.
-
Four divisions, with 2 or 3 (depending on the division) going into Round 2.
-
One division, winner goes through to Round 2.
-
One division, top 2 go through to Round 2.
Round 2
-
Four new divisions formed, the top 2 go through to Round 3.
-
One division, the winner goes into Round 3.
- Template:Country data WestIndies One division, the winner goes into Round 3.
-
Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland qualifiers merge to form 5 divisions. Top 2 go into Round 3, 3rd place goes into Repechage Round 3.
-
Three divisions, top 2 go through into Round 3.
-
One division, top 2 go through into Round 3.
-
One division, 2 go into Round 3.
Round 3
- North America - United States, Canada, and Caribbean merge to form 2 divisions. Top 2 go into Round 4. 3rd and 4th into Round 6.
-
Two divisions, winners go into Round 5. 2nd to 4th go into Round 4. Repechage winner goes into Round 5.
-
Two divisions, top 2 into Round 4.
-
One division, 2 go into Round 4.
-
One division, 1 goes into Round 4.
-
One division, 1 goes into Round 4.
-
One division, 1 goes into Round 4.
Round 4
-
Britain and Europe merge to form 2 divisions. Winners into Round 5, 2nd and 3rd into Round 6.
- Oceania - Final, winner to Round 5, 2nd into Round 6.
Round 5
- World Semi Finals - Winners into Round 7, 2nd to 4th into Round 6.
Round 6
- World Repechage - Three divisions, winner of each goes into Round 7.
Round 7
- World Final
As you can see, complicated! But I have an Excel for it all, so I can at least keep track of it!
Would people be interested in participating in the voting if I put all the divisions up?
