ArmchairGM.com, Press Members and the future of blogging
Time for another Rah-Rah Armchair speech!
The world of bloggers getting accepted by the professional media is a gap that is narrowing and narrowing. Many beat writers maintain blogs nowadays too... They are starting to "get it". Hey, I know for a fact that the professional media peruses ArmchairGM.com regularly and even some of the members are media folks and ex-media folks.
Hey, if a crappy and lazy every-other-month bloggers like myself can get smiles and handshakes from the beat writers in the press box, so can you!!!
I believe that there are members of ArmchairGM.com that are not only capable but SHOULD be pushing the wave of the future. Many of you WANT to do this, GO DO IT! Don't be afraid, and demand yourself to feel like you belong there!
Pro Sports Teams are starting to open up to the idea of bloggers as media (MLB hates it - and really don't appreciate my ability to infiltrate their "Professional Media Only" rule)
Here's another idea, for instance:
The New York Islanders are looking for 15 bloggers to "try out" for press passes next season. I know SOME ONE in New York and representing Armchair could show their wares here and get their ins.
I don't have all the info, you can supersleuth it if you're willing and ready - and it doesn't even really sound all that great, BUT it's a step, a foot in the door. What can happen? Blow the door open and the world is yours...
Just keep in mind that press creds will show you the disgusting side of sports journalism as well... the best stories come from the worst circumstances... and there's a LOT of standing around.
Feel free to ask any questions (mannystiles@aol.com) if you need help or moral support!
Go get 'em! Write hard and write often!
