Anyone think there are TOO many articles submitted?

My question is just that- do you think too many articles get submitted each day and it spreads us thin?? For example on the same day there was probably 8 or more Vick and dog articles- no real discussion occured as a brand new article would be seen on the home page and the one with all the comments was lost- people started with scratch and I didn't want to repeat myself so I left- There are also some great articles with no comments- however since so many get submitted they get lost easily- like submitting an article in the morning- by 10:00 am no one will ever see it I'm not sure how to fix this but am I the only one who kind of sees this?

I don't mind tons of articles. I just hate when they suck. We should try some sort of "Reader's Choice" nomination system (articles over 20 votes?) to get better articles more prominence - if you miss two-three days, you miss a ton of "good stuff".

Tons of articles isn't a bad thing. Tons of articles about the same damn thing is. But everyone wants to talk about it and give their two cents and it's a wiki, it's not like we can be editors and delegate who gets to write about what.

I think it's the writer's responsibility to make their article more readable than everyone else's. If I'm writing the 10th Mike Vick article, I better make damn sure I bring something fresh to the table.

Articles that say "What Vick did is bad. What do you guys think?" are the only ones I can do without.

As far as a readers' choice, I think it's a great idea, but it's rare to see articles get over 20 votes unless it's about the Red Sox or something (ever notice you never see the Sox fans around until an article is written about how great they are and they all come out of the woodwork and say "GO SOX!" and nothing else).

I like the idea though, keep the articles with the most votes in the past week on the front page i.e. the top rated comments.

Its true, we get flooded with so many articles that basically say the same thing and add their 2 cents...but its all part of the game...

Admittedly, I write a lot about the phils...but I've been trying to write more general and for that matter different stuff...

I wrote my moyer article today...and literally within 2 minutes it was on the second page of new stuff...namely by 2 vick articles, a bonds article and a nba gambling article...

Its not that I'm offended by not getting votes...but to get buried like that, without a chance (or so i thought) is annoying...

I dunno, there certainly is a problem with quality and quantity, IMO...but i'm unsure how to fix...

I hate repeats. Other than that, I don't mind going in depth with a specific topic, but when it comes to a bunch of things that are talked about ALL THE TIME kinda bugs me...

I, too, don't mind the amount of articles. But, I think that when someone is going to write an article, that they should take the time to scout out if a similar article has been written. If someone has, then comment/give your thoughts on that existing article, rather than writing a "new" article on the same story. Your idea of a 1000 deadline doesn't work for me. Unlike most users on this site, my job isn't a desk job with a computer to use, nor am I a kid on summer break. My only time to write is after I get home from work.

Yes, there should be a way that a "repeat article" is searched for. In the same way that Digg does. That way, the poster won't post his article, and they should be encouraged to comment instead. I've noticed how over the space of an hour, an article can be buried from all obvious viewing.

I agree with Alex. The Digg model is a good one and would cut down on the repetitive articles. Another option would be to somehow "Relate" articles, so if you had an opinion on Vick, you could hang it on some parent document so that they'd all stay together.

The thing Jamel describes about morning articles is worse for me! I post a lot of mine well before any of you get up in the morning, so when the glut of morning articles comes along, mine get shoved aside.

Its true...there are 2 rushes, one around 9 or 10 am EST and another at 1 or 2 EST (that's be 1-2pm and 7 8pm for you alex, i think...6 hours right?)... Perhaps the more thought provoking or discussed "articles" should be in the lockerroom...expecially those who have only a few sentences (as described by alex)...and the lockerroom should ahve a little more promenence...its hard to find now

5 hours actually... And I'll have you know I can add 5 onto a number! :P I agree with what you say - I think the lockerroom is as easily placed as it can be, however. I don't think it's misplaced, it's just not blindingly obvious.

I never really recovered from the lack of attention concerning my review of 1970s Pete Rose Aqua Velva commercials. It LITERALLY made me sick with disappointment. Seriously JuTM, it did! :)

I agree with you entirely. Articles that take an hour to write can suddenly vanish into nowhere. It was a shock yesterday when my Speedway article went from being on about page 5 of the new articles to suddenly being promoted...

There really have been about 8 billion "who's Now" articles...at least yours was entertaining, i liked the color commentary...

I mean, and i always suck up to this guy, take a look at LastRow's articles about who's now...they've got spin, are well written and researched...i'm 100% fine with that...its his (or her?) thing and it entertaining...but

articles like, who's now sucks and i'm tired of it...alrigth, i get it, so are we all...got anything else?

Okay so I brought this up- looks like most agree yet what's gonna happen? Is there a solution here?

Can admin's somehow EASILY link similar columns together? For example all the Vick vs dog articles can somehow get lumped together? Perhaps at the top and then the comments can be at the bottom?? For example- I wrote an article saying "I hate Vick- he killed dogs- do you like dogs?"- I'm the first one- a few comments- Jew Man comes around and writes "Vick Stinks- do you like dogs or cats? Blah Blah Blah"- can you combine that at the top with my original article statement?? Then Tyrone comes along and writes "Why didn't Vick kill some of Jay Mariotti's dogs?"- combine that at the top as well- then Manny comes along and writes "I love dogs- I ate one this morning- Vick is a god!"- you get what I'm saying????

We need a solution people!!!

Its related articles. the best thing we can do is lump them together by category. its not a clean solution. I think that multiple articles on the same topic are fine. Everyone has a different opinion and has a right to be heard. We can also raise the score if you guys want. To limit the number of articles which make the front page.

The big problem seems to be too many articles on the same thing. On top of that, most of those articles are either uneducated or just a few sentences long. I don't endorse limiting posts or subjecting posts to approval before posting, but if everyone was just more conscious of the quality of their post, the log jam of two line stories would be thwarted slightly.
