We're into the meat of the college basketball season.

Anyone interested in turning this into a college basketball chat kinda thing that Falcon did?

What are the odds that the Horizon League sends two teams?

Butler is a lock. UW-GB is a little bit iffy because they already have 8 losses. I think they can make it as a #12 or #13 seed.

I thought the Horizon conference champion got an automatic bid. Remember that the Phoenix split with Butler in the regular season implying the conference could go to anyone (even Cleveland State).

Since Butler is a "BracketBuster Dandy", if the Green Bay "Don't call them UWGB" Phoenix win the conference championship, would Butler still get in? If Butler wins the Championship, where does that leave GB? (Watching from home I think)

UGB will need to win their tourney to get in. I love the way they are playing right now but 2 mid majors from the Horizon will be difficult

I'll start off.

Usually I pay no attention to the coaches poll, but yesterday's listing got me fed up.

UCLA - 20-7 (9-5 in Pac-10 play, 3rd place)

Washington - 20-7 (11-4 in Pac-10 play, sole possession of first)

UCLA and Washington split the season series.

UCLA has an RPI of 36 and is 50th in strength of schedule.

Washington has an RPI of 19 and is 25th in strength of schedule.

UCLA has lost to Michigan, Texas, Washington, Washington State AT HOME, Arizona, and Arizona State (twice).

Washington has beaten Washington State in Pullman, defeated Arizona State in Tempe, and lost to Arizona, Cal (twice) and UCLA. Out-of-conference losses have come against Kansas, Portland, and Florida. Wins have come against Oklahoma State and Portland State (who beat Gonzaga).

So why is Washington ranked 2 spots lower than UCLA in the coaches poll? It makes no logical sense to put them above Washington.

I guess that's what happens when you get by with school name.

Oh well, U-Dub will just have to keep winning.

  • Duke will not get past the sweet 16. They will get shredded on defense, they are not physical and can't handle athletic and quick teams like Clemson and North Carolina. I think they are grossly overrated and will be toast yet again.

  • Pittsburgh is a final four team in my opinion. They are the only sure fire team to make it to Detroit now that UConn has lost Jerome Dyson.

  • VMI is a fun basketball team to watch. I hope they make the dance.

Getting mad about the basketball poll is pretty pointless. It means nothing.

It seems to influence how the committee does its seedings.

I'm more or less perplexed at how you could go against the logic and all statistics and think of UCLA as better than the team that they are trailing by 2 games in the Pac-10 title race.

Oh well, it will only change since one of them is guaranteed to lose this weekend in my book. ;-)

I thought Pitt was #1. I guess I was looking at the wrong poll.
