"He" is used for the sake of a pronoun. It equally applies to she.


Who the hell is Barry Bond? Does he play baseball too? I haven't heard of him...

That was Bonds' name in Pittsburgh. There was only one of him. When he moved to SF, he changed his name to Bonds to better fit his physique.
