A "Kill two-birds in one Stone" Proposal

There seems to be a lot of emphasis on building the encylcopedia lately, so here's an idea I have, that cropped up before.

To help with the featured article on the mainpage, perhaps we could have a system whereby we actually have featured articles on the site. And their principle editors get points that count towards the user standings. This would help emphasise creating good pages, rather than just blank templates that only turn the wikilink blue (hence why so few F1 drivers have profiles).

This could solve a problem of updating the featured article on the Main Page (you could do something with java (well, one could) to change the article every day or something), and emphasise quality articles.

Thoughts?

Templates are good, just not everything. If there's a huge group of players needing articles, the Template works. Ideally, people'd go back and fill in after the templates, but still. Not a bad proposal. Gotta run, so I'll post my concerns later

Ok, so my biggest problem is Numbers. We'd need to determine how many quality articles we have.

I don't think numbers matter. As long as we have a criteria for them. And as long as it's kept fairly exclusive.

there's a lot of math that goes into it. We need to avoid repeats for as long as possible, so we have to determine how many quality articles exist, and determine how many are created over a period of time, and then determine a length per article that will allow us to go hopefully at least a year (preferably 2) before having a repat. It's a good idea, but there's work that needs to be done with it
