AGM Fantasy County Cricket 2008 - It's fun AND educational!
For the last... Well, it must be 20 minutes now... I've been attempting to do two things.
I had a mind to find a way to create a "Fantasy Cricket", and I came up with a solution. It needed to encorporate the fact that there are very different skills needed for each position, but I came up with a way to do it. I use a formula to create a score in points for batsmen and bowlers. Since everybody bats and some can bowl, there are position only requirements. Furthermore, it can be done in a Fantasy Draft style that I gather you enjoy. And I can provide 2007 season data. The draft can be held anytime between October 2007 to March 2008. The only issue involves squad changing, but hopefully "bench" players can counteract that. And you only need to draft - after that the game requires zero maintainance. You are only allowed one overseas player, which I shall mark for you, and should he leave, you will get his replacement at the club.
This is what would need to be drafted (brackets are the stats that count):
- Opening Batsman (bat)
- Opening Batsman (bat)
- Batsman (bat)
- Batsman (bat)
- Batsman (bat)
- All Rounder (bat+bowl)
- Wicketkeeper (bat)
- Seam Bowler (bowl)
- Spin Bowler (bowl)
- Seam Bowler (bowl)
- Seam Bowler (bowl)
- Opening Batsman (bat)
- Batsman (bat)
- All Rounder (bat+bowl)
- Wicketkeeper (bat)
- Spin Bowler (bowl)
- Seam Bowler (bowl)
- Miscellaneous (depends on player type)
The "bench" players count too, in as much as, if a bench player's score is higher than a starting player's score, then their score will count in place of the starter (to account for injuries, minimalise maintainance etc.).
Also, you nominate a "captain". His score will be multiplied by 1.2, and that will count towards your total. It must be a starting player though.
Technically, there are two divisions in first-class cricket, although this League shall not distinguish between them.
So, there is my proposal. The 2007 season ends in September, and it'll take until December to get data into an Excel. Interested parties shall then be sent that workbook, and a draft will be played. In short, you'll get all the data emailed to you to choose your picks. Because there are 18 rounds, then it will probably take as many weeks to draft. I shall set up a page where each player can be drafted. You will be expected to maintain the "draft pool" on your Excel from thereon. You can then draft players on here, and you will have 1 day to draft each player. Players drafting with two consecutive picks (at the end of a round, e.g.) will be expected to make their picks straight away. At the discretion of the League, after a set time, then I will autopick the next highest points scorer from 2007.
So, thoughts on this? And any interest? Comment below. :)
