A-ROD OPTS OUT

Per the AP

By RONALD BLUM, AP Baseball Writer 3 minutes ago

DENVER - Alex Rodriguez opted out of his $252 million, 10-year contract with the Yankees on Sunday in what appears to be the end of his career with New York. Agent Scott Boras said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that Rodriguez had made the decision.

I just thought that he has the best shot in NY. If he can't perfrom in NY, then I don't see him going anywhere else and making an impact, plus, alot of teams, I am sure don't want to pay A-Rod millions of $$ to suck in the playoffs, he can only get paid a ridiculous amount of money in NY. No other team wants to have A-Rod come in and destroy their team chemistry.

Boras' quote doesn't really make sense...if he really wanted to know what the Yankees were doing, he'd wait until the 10th day to decide if he wanted to opt out or not. Now he's burned his bridges with the Yankees. This doesn't really look smart to me, unless Boras really believes the Yankees are lying about not having him back.

I agree 100%. This is not a huge story. Why wouldn't A-Rod and Boras exploit the market as much as possible? Regardless of what's being said in the press, this does not necessarily mean that A-Rod's time with the Yankees is over. All he's doing is calling the Yankees' bluff. If he doesn't get a better offer than the nearly $30M/yr over 5 years that the Yankees offered him, then he'll be back.

Here's what I say to you A-Rod... F U you greedy piece of garbage. Ken Rosenthal just had to make things worse for New York City's baseball fans. First, the Red SUX are about to win a f'en ho-hum World Series and now this dose of poison. Some promise to wait ten days after the World Series and/or see who the Yankees hire as their new manager. Go ahead, join the f'en Red SUX or even the blessed Cubs while you're at it! Go to hell Scott Boras. You're the reason baseball economics are so out of control.

Honestly how much money does a guy need? reports were the yankees were willing to give him 5 year 150 mil extension. If he had any interest in coming back to the yankees he should have at least waited till he had to opt out to do so. Unless his "reasons" for opting out were B.S. which i'm quite sure they were. Boras will go out and get a-rod a ton of money from someone, that much is sure. As a Yankee fan and an A-rod supporter this is very disappointing that he wouldn't at least wait the ten days to see what happens.

Wow, that was quick. I was just telling my roommate "10 days. The A-Rod watch begins now." Then I read three minutes after the end of the World Series that A-Rod opts out. Now it's time for my team (the Chicago Cubs) to pony up to their fans who have suffered to put the best team on the field. And the first step would be by signing the best player in the game. No matter his price!

I say lets save the 30 million a year and sign someone who can actually play in the postseason. Let A-rod go the cubs and play with Lou. We don't need him here.

Agree with Ibearg about how much does A-Rod need? According to baseball-reference.com he has made $170 million in his career already. If he is saving his money it won't matter if he makes $25 million or $30 million a year. He could buy a lot of tacos with the $22 million he made this year...he could almost buy the company.

I hope the Yankees don't go back on their word and try and resign him. If I'm Cashman I'd try and put a deal together for Miguel Cabrerra. A-Rod can't hold DJ's jock anyway.
