I mean, I guess I see why they do the bench press -- to measure strength. But what's the point of trying to measure speed if they're never going to be that fast on the field since they don't have pads on?

The point is to see if a player is actually fast, or if it's just their school's system that makes them look fast.

The NFL combine is ridiculous. It just shows physical attributes, rather than if they can play the game. Is there a test for physical ability to dodge tackles? Is there anything to show quality catches? Is there a test to see how many penalties a lineman gives away through poor technique? It just seems to be focused on physical attributes, rather than game situation attributes.
