2009 Spring Silliness Open Thread Day 1

Remember last year when we had a lot of people on this site thanks to the bracket manager? Recruited a lot of people, got a lot of traffic. Spring Silliness was fun!

Now it's 2009, people have moved on, and AGM after a brief revival is a ghost town again.

BUT, Spring Silliness is USUALLY the cure for everything! Beginning at 12:00 PM ET the NCAA Tournament tips off with LSU vs. Butler. Overall there are 16 games to be played today in 4 different cities.

I won't be around here much today, but you can give us your thoughts on the tournament where Gonzaga and Washington embarrass the state yet again!

I'll be rooting for BU tomorrow night...I think

NU needs a win over BU to claim a #1 seed...though, I'm not sure how a BC HE championship affects the TUC comparison with NU...they may actually benefit more because BC will be in the tourney by virtue of a title and therefore be a TUC

Like I said, BC has all the talent...Muse has look really good lately...even after giving up those 2 stunner goals to NU 2 weeks ago...

All this talk of seedings and who you want to face in the HE final? Don't underestimate UMass-L.

And seeding is irrelevant. As long as you go to Manchester or Bridgeport and not out to the Midwest. Kind of weird to have no regionals in Worcester or Boston.

Because I'd rather NU play St. Lawrence in Bridgeport than Yale...which is essentially a home game for them...

NU's going to bridgeport...especially because the other potential #1 seeds include Notre Dame (a #1 no matter what), North Dakota, Michigan (probably a #1) and Denver...none of those teams really wanna come east either...

As far as underestimating UML, I'm not really...If NU loses in the Semis or the finals, it'll have the same effect on them...so a loss on either night this weekend puts them in the same place...

Excellent points. But would they give Bridgeport to Yale? If they win the ECAC tourney in convincing fashion, maybe. Otherwise I think they'd go to Manchester.

If Yale makes the tourney (which I think they are guaranteed to via PWR), then they automatically get bridgeport, as it represents their home ice... UNH is guaranteed to play in Manchester (again, assuming they make the tourney, which i think is a forgone conclusion)

Nothing exciting yet although Uconn is trailing by 2 early in the first half, and Purdue is looking pretty solid against N. Iowa.

Villanova needs to get their act together.

Carter sinks the 2 free throws, but texas gets a basket and a penalty.

Gophers need to stop fouling, and either make those 3 pt shots, or get their asses in the paint and play some physical basketball. They don't win pretty games. they win by doing the work that ain't all that sexy, especially those offensive rebounds.

NDSU is a very underrated team, and matches up pretty well against Kansas (who is overrated). That, plus the fact that NDSU basically gets a home game (any NDSU fan in the dakotas who is willing to fork over the money for a ticket will drive down to minneapolis for the weekend) leads me to believe Kansas is going down tomorrow

Well, I have no problem assuming the Gophers are finished tonight.

The gophers are a young team, and their win over Louisville early this season tells me these kids have the potential to hang with anyone. I think they'll be able to make it into the second weekend next season. The gophers got behind and didn't respond well. If Hoffarber can learn how to shoot a 3 again between now and next season, the gophers will be in good shape to have a fantastic season.

Congrats Tubby for taking one of the biggest jokes of a team in DI that looked like it was only going to get worse. I think Kentucky has to be regretting firing him. It takes some mad talent to turn a program around in two years. Especially when your predecessor left you with less than nothing to work minus a couple of in state kids that wanted to go to the U.
