2008 World Snooker Championship to have a ceremony-like draw

On Tuesday, March 11, 888snooker.com will stream live coverage of the draw for the 2008 World Snooker Championship. It will take place at 13:00 GMT (8:00 AM ET). The build up starts half an hour beforehand, and there will be an exhibtion featuring some of the players.

The top 16 ranked players have already qualified for the tournament. There are 16 qualifiers, to be determined over the next four days.

This will be the first time in the 81 year history of the event that fans all over the world can watch the draw for the event live.

The World Championship will go to The Crucible Theatre for the main event, starting on April 19th, and the draw will take place live from the same venue on Tuesday.

Doesn't 888.com run Pacific Poker? Those guys have been blacklisted in the US for unlawful gaming and cheating. Guess you can still cheat in the UK though.

Erm, probably. But it's the sponsor of the World Championship. They don't run the tournament at all, they just pay prize money for the players, in return for the sponsorship.

I see, I'm all for large prize pools and televison coverage for the non-sports (billards, poker, fishing etc) on ESPN and SKY so let's see some balls in pockets!

Billiards is a completely different game my friend... In its purest sense, Billiards is a three ball game involving winning hazards, losing hazards and cannons. And played at its best, it can go on forever. That's why nobody plays it anymore (professionally). Snooker overtook billiards as a result. Pool, which I think you're referring to, is again a different game.
