Liriano Scratched

Minnesota Twins rookie phenom Francisco Liriano was scratched from his start today with elbow inflammation. He was replaced in the rotation by Boof Bonser. The extent of Liriano's injury was not made public.

In his absence, the Twins lost to the Texas Rangers 10-2 on the strength of two Mark Teixeira home runs. Bonser surrendered seven runs, four of which were earned, and struck out five to earn the loss, his third in five decisions.

I'm glad he got scratched. Not so that the Rangers would be able to win, but because I got to see two pitchers named Kip and Boof go against each other.

Hopefully this is just the Twins being overly cautious (which is good) and not the sign of a more serious injury. Twins need a healthy Liriano if they're going to be a threat both this year and beyond.
