Lip Pike (Lipman Emanuel Pike) was born on May 25, 1845 in New York, New York. He made his Major League debut on May 9, 1871 for the Troy Haymakers. In 1871, his rookie year, he hit .377 with 4 home runs and 39 RBI. Pike played for the Troy Haymakers, Baltimore Canaries, Hartford Dark Blues, St. Louis Brown Stockings, Cincinnati Reds, Providence Grays, Worcester Ruby Legs and New York Metropolitans over the course of his 10 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Lip Pike's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1872, when he hit for a .295 average and knocked in 60 runs. However, others believe that it was 1875, when he hit for a .346 average.
