About the Submitter

Romiezzo
My name's Romi Ezzo and I'm a huge sports fan. My favorite thing in the world is baseball, and hopefully, I can become someone involved in sports, whether it's being a sports writer, an analyst, a commentator, or maybe just sticking around here at ArmchairGM editing stuff, and commenting every once in a while. Playing sports is what gets me going, and when I feel like I don't have the energy to actually play baseball, basketball, soccer (football), or American football, I'll just play some MVP, NBA Live, Winning 11, or Madden. My favorite baseball player is Derek Jeter (who I idolized growing up... yes, even though I'm a Red Sox fan), with Dustin Pedroia, Ichiro, and Jacoby Ellsbury in a close 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. I cannot choose a favorite basketball player (it seems like I have a different one each season). I like Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Hedo Turkoglu, Amare Stoudemire, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, and Dwyane Wade... just to name a few. I'm a New England fan, which means that I love the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. I'm glad that I can talk sports to a bunch of people that have the same in common that I do.

Keep Armchair GM alive! :)

(Submitted July 29, 2009)
Lionel Messi is Goal.com's top player of the 2008-09 season.

I, for one, definitely agree with this.

Messi is #1. But I would put Nemanja Vidic at #2. And how in God's Great Green Earth is Landy Cakes even on that list?!?!?!

Landy is overrated, overhyped. Good but not great.

I actually agree with Iniesta being #2. Although I agree that Messi should be first on this list, without Iniesta, I don't think Barcelona would've won all the marbles and it would've been a lot closer in the end between Barca and Real Madrid. When Iniesta was injured or on the bench, Barcelona would either draw or lose, even to a mediocre team. He worked the middle like magic. I'm actually shocked that you would put Vidic over Ronaldo. Not too many people would say that, but I admire that you don't overlook defense in soccer.

I don't see why he shouldn't be on the list of top 50 of 08-09..

I mean he is the all-time top scorer for the US.

Besides that, he won the Golden Boot in the MLS scoring 20 goals.. I don't watch the MLS but I did watch the Confed Cup in June and his games against both Spain and Brazil were inspirational.. The passes he made were spot on and his goal against Brazil in the Final oozed class, On the level I expect for a player that is outside Europe was kind of top.

He might get alot of press time because I guess you could say he is the golden boy of the current soccer era in America, but he preformed well for the 08-09 season so he does deserve a place.. if players like Michel Bastos and Mesut Oezil are on the list and Rossi someone who scored the same amount of goals and didn't really do much with Italy, as well.

Landy Cakes has some right to be on this list..

I guess, its also due to the fact we watch more European football which sets the bar EXTREMELY high for those who do not.

But on the basis of last season 39 is a little bit too low but he should be on the list somewhere I guess..
