Lidle Dies After Crashing Small Plane into Building

31
Vote

As many have already heard, a small airplane crashed into a 50-story residential building on Manhattan's East Side on Wednesday, killing at least two people. ESPN is now reporting that the plane was registered with New York Yankee Cory Lidle and it is presumed that he perished in the crash. One other person died in the crash.

Wow, apparently Lidle is a worse pilot than he is a pitcher. Who woulda thunk it? Bring on the negatives, but you know that was funny!!!!

Or you could go with this one: Lidle has as much trouble finding the runway as he does the strike zone.

apparently it seems there was some mechanical failure... why did he take it into a building and not dump it in the river?? Even with total power failure, a plne can glide from momentum and gravity...

from ESPN - Lidle also talked about airplanes' safety in an interview with MLB.com in February. "If you're 7,000 feet in the air and your engine stops, you can glide for 20 minutes," Lidle said at the time. "As long as you're careful, everything should be fine."

Mayor Bloomberg stated that a flight instructor and his student were on the plane. Hence, two people were on the plane.

This is a sad day in sports. No matter what your team affiliation, there are moments in life that bring us back to reality, and help us gage what life is really all about. The events of today have done just that. It is a shame to see someones life cut so short. My prayers go out to the Lidle family, and to the families that lost loved ones in this accident. May we all watch the rest of the MLB playoffs with a little more perspective and remember that sometimes winning isnt everything.

Cory Lidle put in extremely danger the lives of many innocents, not to mention the huge impact in security issues that US authorities will have to explain to the world community.

This is the link of the live coverage of this foul play plane crashing on that residential New York building recorded live from my TV screen on different cable TV stations covering this horrid event in progress, October 11, 2006. http://www.y...=s87e67I5pGA

I gotta say, I was disgusted at the news coverage. I don't know why I continue to allow myself to be surprised about the depths to which the pathetic news media will sink. Yesterday, they covered this story for hours even when they had nothing to say. From what I've read, it appears they took no steps to ensure the family had been notified before they broke the news that it was Lidle. And the headlines were disgusting. CNN got alliteration happy as, just before they ran the headline "Nuclear Nightmare," they ran the Lidle headline as "High-Rise Horror." They would have been hard-pressed to find a less sensitive headline than that. TV news should be ashamed of istelf.

Wow.

I suppose this breaks the theory that all pilots deliberately try to miss buildings if they know they are in trouble up in the air. Awful week for death in sport (if you take Hunter into account too).

Are there any NASCAR, IRL, ChampCar etc. races this weeekend (they say things happen in threes...)

According to The New York Times: Local pilots with experience traveling through New York City’s busy and tricky airspace said that Lidle’s plane appeared to have followed the rules when he turned left, but that they knew better alternatives: either pilots get clearance from La Guardia, which would not have been a problem on Wednesday; or just skip the East River altogether and go up the Hudson River; or request permission to turn right and make a U-turn that carries them over a sliver of Queens.

One pilot said that he would rather run the risk of receiving a citation by flying without permission through La Guardia airspace than attempting the left turn that Lidle's plane did: This is to put innocent lives in danger! Here is the link from "The New York Times" for this information: http://www.n...ner=homepage
