Born on September 11, 1910 in Sumner, Iowa, Les Tietje (Leslie William Tietje) played for the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 6 year career. Tietje broke into the bigs on September 18, 1933 with the Chicago White Sox, and put up a 4.81 ERA in 176 innings pitched in 1934, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Les Tietje's best season was 1935, when he posted a 4.30 ERA and struck out 64 batters.
