Les Horvath, born on October 12, 1921 in South Bend, Ind., was a football player in the 1940s who won the Heisman Trophy in 1944.

Horvath's road to the Heisman was an interesting one. He graduated from Ohio State in 1942 and was in grad school studying dentistry when then-head coach Carroll Widdoes asked Horvath to return to the team for a fourth season. Because of the manpower shortages during the war, a fourth year of eligibility was allowed, and Horvath ended up winning the Heisman.

After he graduated from dental school in 1945, he joined the Navy and was finally discharged in 1947, whereupon he joined the Los Angeles Rams for two seasons before finishing his career with the Cleveland Browns in 1949.
