Born on March 20, 1888 in Cleves, Ohio, Les Backman (Lester John Backman) played for the St. Louis Cardinals for his entire 2 year career. Backman broke into the bigs on July 3, 1909 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 4.14 ERA in 128.1 innings pitched in 1909, his rookie year.
