He was taken from the New York Mets in the Rule V Draft before the 2004 season and the Red Sox kept him on the DL for most of the year to avoid having to sell him back. His 2005 performance in Pawtucket shows that the Red Sox may have been right to keep him. He had a 3.15 ERA in 109 IP over 23 games.
Dinardo will compete for a job as a long reliever/spot starter with the big league club in 2006.

Pitching
Dinardo's mid-80's fastball doesn't exactly light up the radar guns, but it has enough movement to fool major league hitters. He also throws a changeup and a curve. He keeps the ball down and has enough sinking action to keep the ball in the park. His stuff isn't overpowering, but he can locate his pitches and has enough confidence to compete. He may be able to fill out the bottom of a rotation or be used in long relief.
