Born on September 23, 1900 in Sparta, Tennessee, Lefty Stewart (Walter Cleveland Stewart) played for the Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators and Cleveland Indians over the course of his 10 year career. Stewart broke into the bigs on April 20, 1921 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 4.28 ERA in 155.2 innings pitched in 1927, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Lefty Stewart's best season was 1930, when he posted a 3.45 ERA, won 20 games and struck out 79 batters.
