Leave The Wild Card Alone!!!!!

Wheres this creepy guy when you need him? Why do people continue to try to fix things that aren't broken? Why is the MLB getting rid of one of the most exciting aspects of the MLB Playoffs. I'm talking about the wild card. I mean the MLB has steroids and Milton Bradleys of the world yet they trying to fix the playoffs or are they tryng to fix the playoffs. According to owners the ways to change the system would be to

A) Expand the first round to 7 games- This is a very sketchy move it virtually eliminates any major upsets. A team can steal one on the road and pull off two wins in front of the home crowd coughcoughRockiescoughcough. Cinderella teams are the sole purpose of college baskeball but major leagues dont want to see that, thats why the NFL gives top teams a frist round bye and a bye before the Superbowl, the NBA expanded to 7 games (the #8 Celtics almost had Shaq and the Magic in 95, but honestly i dont remember who was on the team), and now the MLB are trying to do the same, as if players dont play 162 games already. Not to mention the playoffs are short and sweet because who wants a World Series snowout and lets face it November is for football.

B) Add another wild card team- Umm Bud we just had this you know Rockies-Padres. But more than that they want a 3 game play-in series. Not only is this excessive but a team that has to play in will likely have to use their ace pitchers to get in and will be at an disadvantage to an division winner...once again they dont want Cinderellas. Imagine a Game 1 showdown CC Sabathia vs. Phillip Hughes can you say one sided.

C)Wild Card to play 4-5 on the road- Not only is this very ridiculuously unfair, but what about the fans of the wild card team they only get one game to see their home team play and can you imagine an embarssment if a wild card still makes it thru.

D)Higher seeded team required to win 2 games, wild card would have to win 3- I'll watch hockey if this goes thru. enough said.

Personally I think they should leave it as is, or if anything give each league a 4th division that way the playoffs are all division winners. The wild card system was implemented with a 27-1 vote (George Bush was the lone voter, go figures). Now 12 years later they having regret, would they give away a 12 year old son that wasnt smart or athletic, no. Leave it alone Bud, if we have an Angels-Rockies series, I watch it.....on Sportscenter the next day but still its not the wild cards fault its the top teams fault for not winning. That is all.

Sounds like George voted the right way. I really do not like the wild card. I could tolerate it when MLB went to 2 divisions per league in 1969 because you still had to finish first to qualify for the post season. I say go back to 2 divisions per league, either finish in 1st or go home..

That was the thing that made baseball different, finish 1st or go home, I loved that about baseball. Now it's all muddied. What is this NFL you speak of?

The purist in me doesn't like the wild card for the same reasons. But you know what I really don't like about the wild card? They play some of the games in the afternoon. If your playoff games aren't good enough to be worthy of prime-time exposure, then don't play them. Maybe I'm just annoyed that I have to work.

I don't see how it's muddled. Wild card teams often have better records than division winning teams. Colorado had the same record as Philly before their 1 game playoff. The Cardinals had the 13th best record in baseball last year and won their division.

The Wild Card team is usually a pretty good team, and it usually doesn't bring down the quality of playoff teams.

Having two divisions brings up a few problems. Firstly, it screws the Midwest by splitting teams up, so you lose some good regional rivalries and potential rivalries because the teams are competing for different things.

The name of the game is money, and playoff races generate revenue for teams that might be out of divisional races, but can still compete for the Wild Card.

The wildcard just creates more interest. I don't care. If you can't beat the wild card team when it counts, go home.

Why shouldnt the Wild Card be at a disadvantage they didnt win the division, which the unbalanced schedule says is important?

I'm guessing this guy was too afraid of the ball or breaking a nail or something to get involved in sports. But if you want to make fun of the Wild Card, you have to go through me.

B) Add another wild card team This doesn't seem logical to me at all. You play 162 games to decide the wild-card (after the divisions are set), and a team like the Yankees this year wins by six games over the Tigers. After that, they play one (or maybe three) games to actually decide who gets to move on into the playoffs? How does that make sense?
