Le Monde attacks Armstrong again

13
Vote

The French newspaper Le Monde, apparently still reeling from seven straight Tour de France victories by an American, continued its attacks against Lance Armstrong today. The paper claimed that Frankie Andreu, a teammate, and his wife Betsy, testified in a Dallas court that Armstrong admitted using steroids to them.

The alleged confession occured October 28, 1996, as Armstrong was preparing to undergo chemotherapy treatement for cancer. Everyone else in the room - including several trained medical personnel - denied ever hearing such an admission and produced medical records showing that no past drug use had been recorded.

Le Monde has made the Armstrong-steroid connection something of a crusade in the past year, making various allegations regarding regarding his supposed past drug use, none of which have panned out when checked by other news agencies.

I can only imagine Le Monde is on the level of a National Enquirer. The investigation into their last report clearly erroded any journalistic integrity they had.

The French can't accept being second to anyone. Sadly, being second may be too high of a mark for the French these days. It is embarassing what they are doing to Armstrong. If this is their way of increasing interest in the post-Armstrong Tour De France, they are dumber than mud.

Armstrong should be a praised hero, not an alleged cheat. He has won the race more times than anyone else, and overcome cancer along the way. He is a true hero, and the French ought to not accuse him continually.

the french have a blind spot for armstrong because they just can't handle the fact an american beat them at their national sport seven times. it's all about insecurity and envy.

as for being unwilling to accept being second, remember, france's largest achievement in the last one hundred years was handing over the keys to their country to hitler in WWII with hardly a shot fired. the only reason they're still speaking french is because we bailed them out.

in true french form, they hate us for it. and they hate armstrong because he's a constant reminder of their inadequacies.

Soccer is the French national sport. And France had no real option in the war, they were trying to promote disarmament by disarming themselves, so when Germany invaded they had no weapons to fight with, or an army that could help much. And us Brits helped a bit :)
