Born on September 6, 1961 in Mount Vernon, New York, Roy Smith (LeRoy Purdy Smith) played for the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 8 year career. Smith broke into the bigs on June 23, 1984 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 4.59 ERA in 86.1 innings pitched in 1984, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Roy Smith's best season was 1989, when he posted a 3.92 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 92 batters.
