Round table thoughts from a Chicago Bar
What fresh Hell is this...Wood...Injured...Done?
As Dr. Crane would put it, "The vultures are circling".
Why this opinion article?
After getting out of work yesterday (10 hrs in a hot kitchen) I did my usual pastime of sitting at my favorite watering hole taking in all the rants and raves of how the Cubs suck and how they will turn it around this year (Haha). I about found myself throwing up in a toilet from mixed emotions of laughter and utter disgust. This is our round table discusion and descisions we came up with. As I write this I regret the long night as the kitchen is even hotter today, so I'm going to do some cooking of my own right here.
Gay Games' Closing Ceremonies offer up a mixture of emotions (just like the Cubs), therefore perfect for being held in Wrigley Field. Marking the end of 8 days of competition, and maybe an opportunity for the Chicago Cubs to scout a player with talent...or at least more than that they already have.
Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood will be out at least four weeks after an exam revealed a partial tear in his right rotator cuff. Did anybody else see this coming? Wood underwent an arthrogram at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Friday.
My Opinion – He Gone – A Little Over Done
Other Chicago Cubs I’m throwing on the Grill
The fires are lit guys...You better turn it around.
Stats as of Saturday July 8, 2006
Glendon Rusch 2-7, ERA 8.19
Ryan Dempster Last 10 games 0-2, ERA 8.68
Roberto Novoa Last 10 games ERA 6.35, Errors 8
Scott Williamson ERA 5.19 in 8.2 of innings pitched
Aramis Ramirez Last 10 batting .282 compared to .318 and .302 past two years, HR 1 past two years 36 and 31 OK…he can pull it around but the fire is lit
Mark Prior The boy is marinating…he might be on the grill soon.
John Mabry Batting Ave for past 10 games .167!!!
And Finally:
Tribune Company & Mr. Baker
We have others too, but these were our players of intrest last night. The discusion was postponed due to a promotion involving the Miller Girls.
Except for the one guy I will watch and appreciate Greg Maddux, to the rest of yal, two words fire & re-hire. JP and a few others are doing...better than the rest. Wood had a huge year as a rookie in 1998 as he had a 20-strikeout game in his fifth start and won the National League Rookie of the Year Award and since, I'm still waiting to see him "earn" the money he has so diligently received.
Until then maybe the Chicago Cubs should look into playing some ball in the Olympics next week and bring some wins to their record. Until then I'll be bitter and a typical Chicago sports fan as I go to my local watering hole to drink away the blues...Oh wait I'm a Chicago White Sox fan, Go SOX!!!
