Born on November 1, 1907 in Visalia, California, Larry French (Lawrence Herbert French) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 14 year career. French broke into the bigs on April 18, 1929 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 4.90 ERA in 123 innings pitched in 1929, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Larry French's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1936, when he posted a 3.39 ERA, won 18 games and struck out 104 batters. However, others believe that it was 1942, when he posted a 1.83 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 62 batters.
