Larry Chappell (LaVerne Ashford Chappell) was born on February 19, 1890 in McClusky, Illinois. He made his Major League debut on July 18, 1913 for the Chicago White Sox. In 1913, his rookie year, he hit .231 with 0 home runs and 15 RBI. Chappell played for the Chicago White Sox and Boston Braves over the course of his 4 year career.

- Traded by Milwaukee (American Association) to Chicago White Sox in exchange for Johnny Beall and $13500 and a catcher to be named next spring (July 14, 1913).
- Traded by Chicago White Sox to Cleveland Indians (February 14, 1916) completing trade in which Chicago White Sox traded Braggo Roth, Ed Klepfer, $31500 and a player to be named later to Cleveland Indians in exchange for Shoeless Joe Jackson (August 21, 1915).
