Born on November 20, 1897 in St. Louis, Missouri, Larry Benton (Lawrence James Benton) played for the Boston Braves, New York Giants and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 13 year career. Benton broke into the bigs on April 25, 1923 with the Boston Braves, and put up a 4.99 ERA in 128 innings pitched in 1923, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Larry Benton's best season was 1928, when he posted a 2.73 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 90 batters.
