LaBeouf of the Week 10

Well, this week I learned to never, ever, under any circumstances apologize. Just last week I wrote: “My sincere apologies to the City of New Orleans for piling it on earlier this season. I am glad you got things cleaned up.” I was sorry for picking on Drew Brees, Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, and co. for essentially taking an extensive dump on the fleur de lis.

Well, I respectfully rescind my apology. The entire Saints team Shia Labeouf’d, making them the first team to win the dreaded Shia LaBeouf Award. The Saints Defense could not be worse. Three of the Rams starting offensive linemen are out and you still gave up 37 points. Marc Bulger looked like he was worth that fat contract extension and went out and completed 81% of his passes, with an O line that belongs on a practice squad. This secondary could be the worst in the league, although somehow there are 3 teams that are worse against the pass. Listen, when Steven Jackson and his groin are tossing TD’s on you, you need to blow up your secondary, along with the bed you slept in because you have Shia LaBeouf’d. Not only did the Saints D Shia LaBeouf, but so did Drew Brees. After 4 straight weeks of relatively safe pasta primavera, Drew decided to hit the Great American Beer festival all day Saturday, and end his night with some good Popeye’s Fried Chicken. Well, I do not need to tell you what happened next. Thank goodness the Saints wear black pants at home. 2 picks to the 29 th ranked defense pretty much sealed the deal, and 22 4 th quarter points could not even begin to clean up the mess that was left in the Superdome.

An honorable mention this week goes to the Giants D coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. So, it is your second try against Dallas, and Tony Romo AGAIN throws for 4 TD’s. This is supposed to be a completely different defensive unit, yet somehow against the only talent the Giants play twice, the result is the same. Let me help you with something Spags. Try using your cornerbacks to cover arguably the best wideout in the NFC. Let’s not put Gibril Wilson on TO in the 4 th quarter. This is a bigger recipe for disaster than a Texas Chili cook-off. While we are discussing cover schemes, I think it might be a good idea to have Michael Strahan, arguably the best active pass rushing D lineman, rushing the quarterback, especially on a big third down. I can’t think of any reason why he would be 15 yards down field in pass coverage. So, Spags, for your Saturday night buffet into Sunday afternoon Shia LaBeouf, I salute you.

Last week, I wish I picked the elusive Peyton Manning LaBeouf (6 Int’s, and they still almost won!!?), but alas I am not clairvoyant. Derek Anderson had a pretty good game against a very good Pittsburgh D, and once again, my pick was dead wrong. This week, the Shia LaBeouf award will go to Jon “Christ the” Kitna. The Giants secondary is going to be revved up after taking an absolute pounding, and Kitna is going to make a divine mess on Sunday. Now, if I were a betting man I would bet the house on the Lions because my recent weekly predictions have been leading me right down the Hershey highway towards a LaBeouf of my own.

Lastly, I would like to thank the members of Team Tall, who once again brought the Beerfest Cup back where it belongs. Special thanks to the gentleman from Vromont, the truly deserving MVP, without whom victory for Team Tall would not have been possible.
