Another HUGE shakeup in the BCS standings will take place after the Number 1 LSU Tigers fall to the Arkansas Razorbacks 50-48 in triple OT. The LSU loss means that tomorrow's Mizz/Kansas game will be even bigger than it already is (Kansas is number 2, and Missouri is number 4).
LSU had the ball inside the 20 with just over a minute to go (down 28-21), but Arkansas stopped the Tigers on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down, and on 4th and Goal from the 3 LSU appeared to tie up the game on a Flynn QB sneak, but Arkansas had called a last-second Timeout when they saw the sneak coming. So, LSU had to run the play again, and Flynn threw a 3-yard TD pass to Demetrius Byrd.
On the kickoff, kicker Josh Jasper kicked it to the 15, and Arkansas return man returned it to the Arkansas 47-yard line, and with :49 left in the game, Arkansas began their drive. On the first play, Casey Dick handed it to RB, Darren McFadden, who ran it for a decent 6. After an incomplete pass, Arkansas took Casey off the fueld, and instead McFadden handed it to Peyton Hillis for 4-yards to the LSU 43. On 4th and 1, with :10 left Arkansas QB attempted a long pass which sailed out of bounds, and LSU took over with :03 left. LSU heaved a long pass which also fell to the ground, and the game headed for OT, in what had been a very excting game. In OT, LSU scored first on a 12-yard pass play by Flynn, and with a 35-28 lead LSU forces a 4th and 10 play for Arkansas' Offense, and Casey Dick threw a 12-yard pass fro the first down. Two plays later Arkansas had a false start penalty which backed them up 5 yards. After the injury timeout for for LSU, McFadden ran for 2 yards which forced a 3rd and 8, and the next play Casey Dick threw a 10-yard TD pass to Hillis, and Tejada's PAT tied the game up at 35, and forced a 2nd OT.
Arkansas got the ball to start off the 2nd OT, and on the first play, backup RB, Felix Jones ran for 16 yards, and the very next play last year's Heisman runner-up Darren McFadden ran for 9-yards to add 6 more points (Tejada's PAT made it 42-35). So, on just two plays, Arkansas puts the pressure on Matt Flynn, and LSU's Offense. Flynn's reaction was great, as he throws an 12-yard bullet to Richard Dickson for the FD, and the next play Jacob Hester ran for 7 yards down to the 2-yard line. Two plays later, on 3rd & Goal, Hester runs it in, and LSU ties it up at 42 with Colt David's PAT.
LSU, and Arkansas are still fighting this one out in triple OT, which starts with a Felix Jones 6-yard run, and with McFadden at QB on the following play, Hillis runs for 2 yards. Casey Dick comes back in for the 3rd and 4 play (after LSU takes their final TO), Felix Jones run for a first down run by Jones. Two plays later McFadden runs for another first down at the LSU 3-yard line, and then Hillis runs for another TD. The NCAA rules state that you have to go for a two-point conversion during the 3rd OT, so, Arkansas goes for it, and make it on a Felix Jones HB Toss (McFadden wasn't even on the field). So, now LSU must score a TD, PLUS the two-point conversion just to tie the ball game up. Dwon 50-42 in the third OT, Flynn comes out with a 12-yard pass for a first down to Early Doucet. Two plays later Flynn throws a TD pass to Lafell, and LSU does NOT get the two-point conversion as Flynn throws an INT in the end zone to end the game, and the number 1 team GOES DOWN. Final score: Arkansas 50, (1) LSU 48. WOW, what a game!!!
Player of the game:
Darren McFadden- 31 ATT, 205 Yards, 3 TD, 6.6 YPC
WOW!!! Now who will be number 1!?!? You guys tell me.
