LET'S GO SILVA!!!!!

by Carlos Silva Fan Club

I really like Carlos Silva. I was not in full support of the Twins re-signing him last year. After the poor season he had in 2006, I thought we could do better. I then decided to do research on Silva's career, and found out he had only one poor season, 2006. I looked back at his stats from Philadelphia in 2002 and 2003 where he was a reliever and was impressed. In fact, it was not until he came to Minnesota when he became a full-time starter in 2004.

The Minnesota Twins saw his potential as a starter, and he's been here ever since. Upon reading this, I turned my support totally toward Carlos, and have kept a close eye on him all season long. Although he has had a few poor outings, over all, Carlos' season has been a good one. Carlos definately gives us a more than 80% chance to win, and his confidence builds every game, especially when he is given run support. Even Ron Gardenhire has seen the improvement in Carlos this year, as proven when he turned to Santana and Silva as the "go to guys," having them pitch on every 5th day rather than every 6th day, and shuffeling the rotation around those two pitchers during interleague play.

I think the Twins need to keep Carlos Silva on the mound and watch him shine in the second half. I am excited to see Carlos Silva's second half of the season get better, and he and the Minnesota Twins make yet another play-off run.

seriously, look at some stats before you speak. he has been shut out 6 time this season, and five of those time the Twins should have won. In five of Silva's six shut outs, he has pitched with a 1.88 era. He is also pitching with a 1.61 era in August. But I like how you think...means we will keep a quality pitcher within our rotation because people dont read stats. Thank you

Yes, let's also look that Silva was 11-15 in 2006 with an ungodly ERA of 5.94, allowing 246 hits in 190.1 innings and 38 homers. For his CAREER he is 52-44 with an ERA of 4.3 and has allowed 1072 hits in 907.1 innings. His WHIP is 1.364 for his career and only slightly better at 1.275 this season. He has allowed the 5th most hits in the AL so far this year and has the second most losses, behind Contreras (16). If this is a quality pitcher, then I should thank Jim Hendry for putting together the next Hall of Fame caliber rotation with Zambrano, Lilly, Marquis, Hill and Marshall.

Just a couple more things that I missed the first time. You want to plug how he has a 1.61 ERA in August. He is 1-1 this month. Let's look at the splits you omitted:

April: 2-1, 3.10 ERA 29 IP 37 hits May: 1-4, 5.28 ERA 30.2 IP, 33 hits June: 3-3, 4.05 ERA 40 IP, 42 hits (this is where his 2 CG and 1 SO came) July: 3-3, 5.84 ERA 37 IP, 46 hits

If you are going to throw one stat out, expect someone like me, who eats stats for breakfast, to point out all the ones you choose to overlook.

Silva is a ground out pitcher, and obviously gives up a lot of hits. His era is lowering and continually drops as this season goes on. Last year was his worse season of his career. He was 14-8 4.21 is 2004, and 9-8 3.44 in 2005. If you wanna dwell in the past so much. Who cares about hits when he is not allowing runs cross the plate. Silva has gotten stronger as this season goes on, and continues to gain recognition around the league. He has a WHIP of 1.28, is ranked 6th in the league in walking batters at 1.69 per game. The 6th lowest that is. So breakfast boy, he does not put many batters on base without making them work for it, and has allowed only 16 home runs in 164 innings, 8 home runs less than Santana, and 3 less than Erik Bedard and Barry Zito. He has also pitched 10 innings more than Zito. silva also stays healthy, and is a reliable pitcher.

He doesn't allow runs to cross the plate? Then why the hell is his career ERA 4.30, and his ERA this year still over 4?

As for his "awesome" 2004 season, he STILL gave up 256 hits in 203 innings and his ERA was 4.21. Hardly impressive. His WHIP that season was 1.429 and he allowed the third most hits in the AL that year. As for comparing his home run ratio to Santana, Bedard and Zito, who the hell cares? The first two of them are strikeout pitchers with WINNING records. Bedard has fanned 218 guys so far this season. Silva has fanned 378...in his CAREER.

Finally, you want to tout his relief numbers? He was 8-1? So what? Look deeper into the numbers. 2 for 8 in save opps. ERA of 3.21 and 4.43 in those two years in PHI, with WHIPs of 1.310 and 1.477, and he was third in the league in WP in 03 with a dozen.

Now you want to minus me because I pick apart your stats, at least man up to it, instead of trying to act tough. It does you no good, especially when the numbers make you look foolish.

Look, I'm no authority on this topic, but... The Silva Mind Method is incredible (all of the books are pretty good). I read it years ago and it was like a brick hit me in the head and I suddenly saw how simple, easy and wonderful life really is... and then I saw a doctor about the gushing contusion on my head.

I'm amazed a stiff like Carlos Silva actually has a fan club. When you go to Denny's for your fan club meetings, do you need more than one table?

Hm, how much would one want to wager that it was Silva's fan club that minused me for pointing out how bad his career numbers are? Oooo ooo, let me throw one more in there. His great relief numbers? The guy was 2 of 8 in save opps for his career.
