Korea beats up on Willis, USA in WBC

11
Vote

by user Ben

Dontrelle Willis had another rough outing in the WBC. 3 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned runs and an ERA of 12.71. Hee-Seop Choi, a medicore first baseman from the Dodgers, hit a 3 run homer that decided things early. The USA stranded 11 runners and had 3 errors (2 by Chase Utley, 1 by Jeter). Korea now is the only undefeated team left in the tournament. If you asked me before this thing started who'd be undefeated at this point, I wouldn't have said Korea.

Hopefully this will focus the United States for their next game. I am impressed with the Korean team. The talented ball players from other countries continue to impress. I think people underesimtated their ability after disappointments like Kaz Matsui.

This is embarassing. Our best players ought to show up next year.

If our best players would have committed, or rather followed through with their committments, we wouldn't be in this position. Then we would have Billy Wagner pitching instead of Dan Wheeler.

Dontrelle Willis has been a disaster. For the WBC he has a 12.71 ERA, far and away the worst by a pitcher whose team made the second round. I'd be worried if I was a Marlins fan.

I wonder whether Korean players, who play in Japan, are more accustomed to unconventional deliveries, such as Dontrelle's. The reason I am thinking about this is because of Hideo Nomo and Bryun Yon Kim

I thought the same thing. Great minds (or in your case mediocre) think alike!
