Kobe Bryant Apparently NOT Headed to Chicago!

For the moment, it looks like Kobe Bryant will remain a Laker.

In the interest of preserving the sanity of the players on his team, John Paxson, general manager of the Chicago Bulls, the leading candidate in the Kobe Bryant Trade Sweepstakes, stated that the Los Angeles Lakers ’ superstar will apparently not be heading to Chicago.

Just a day after Mark Cuban withdrew his Dallas Mavericks as a possible destination for Kobe, and the news of a supposedly discussed three-team deal in which Kobe would have joined the Bulls, free-agent power forward P.J. Brown (in a sign-and-trade) and shooting Ben Gordon would go to the Sacramento Kings, and the Lakers would receive Ben Wallace and Ron Artest, the Bulls have taken their name out of the running for the NBA’s best player.

Undoubtedly, there are more details to come. But one thing is certain- if the Bulls are out of running for Kobe, there is no reason to believe that a trade is imminent.

So maybe, just maybe, we can take a short break from the Kobe trade talks?

<anti-jinx font> I didn't want to jinx it, but I know why Amare is smiling. Kobe told Amare he's coming to Phoenix. He almost signed here a couple years ago, loves D'Antoni, is drooling at the thought of running with Nash, Raja Bell would NOT be an issue, Kobe has been close with Amare and Phoenix isn't that far from where he lives now<anti-jinx font> We will see...

That's an interesting point, Stiles! Marion, Barbosa and picks + exception $$$ = deal for Kobe. Lakers aren't going anywhere anyway. They need to free themselves and let Kobe win a couple rings here...

bad idea. Marion's fantasy value will drop on the Lakers, and he's my go to guy in FBB

Kobe can turn down any deal they try. He's the ONLY guy in the Association with the deal killer. He wants to come here. I think Phoenix will try to hold on to Barbosa and offer Tucker or Banks; cap space or more picks (still have Atlanta picks), eh... who am I kidding? Barbosa is a goner... dammit!

Kobe told this to Amare in Las Vegas - Hey, I have what may be ficticious or "imaginary" sources that may or may not be real! Amare has been beaming ever since!

I do not want to see Kobe leave the Lakers. I would much rather see him surrounded by more talent. However, I think LA would have to take the deal for Marion, Leandro picks and cash. I thought of a similar trade a few days ago and felt kinda guilty for thinking that it wouldn't be all that bad for the Lakers.

I'd ask the same type of question to a Bulls fan if that trade comes up again. Is it really worth adding Kobe when you're losing Marion and Barbosa, plus draft picks?

that's what I thought. But I hear people every time this story comes up, people want to talk about how great Kobe and the Bulls would be, but I've never understood why

Apparently John Paxson didn't want Kobe Bryant taking over his job. Go figure. And good riddance.

no problem, You're not the only one. Somewhere on my rather long list of things to do here is to create a new help page for quirky things like that

If Kobe was going to be a Sun, he would be already. Not happening. And it sure ain't happening for Shawn Marion.
