King Felix Dominates

Seattle Mariners phenom Felix Hernandez threw his first career shutout against the Los Angeles Angels, needing only 94 pitches. While Hernandex let up two earned runs on four hits, the young hurler struck out nine and did not walk a batter. He threw 73 out of 94 pitches for strikes. Hernandez, 6-6 on the year, has won his last three starts.

The Hardballtimes.com had a great article about how Hernandez was relying too heavily on his fastball in the first inning, which might have led to his earlier struggles. I wonder if he has started to mix up his pitches better.

The best part of that is I got Ichiro for him and all he did last week was go 19-34 (.559) with 2 HR, 2 SB and 27 total bases. A damned good trade if I say so myself. Oh, and Chach, at least I didn't get beat 11-1.

There was also a rumor floating around that Johjima and King Felix had communication issues earlier in the season and that Johjima often called for fastballs when Felix didn't want to deal heat. Fixing that situation has been a priority for pitching coach Rafael Chaves. Looks like they're on the right track.
