Clackson did not join Pittsburgh after the draft, instead signing to play in the WHA. When the NHL and WHA merged in 1979, Pittsburgh regained Clackson's rights in the NHL Reclaim Draft on June 9, 1979. Just over a year later, Pittsburgh sent Clackson to Quebec on August 7, 1980, as compensation for the signing of restricted free agent Paul Baxter.
Kim was known as a hard nosed defenseman in fact, he fought Boston's Stan Jonathan and Al Secord in the first period of his first NHL game.
Kim returned to Pittsburgh after retirement and went into commercial real estate business, becoming senior vice president of local CB Richard Ellis office. He has consistently been one of company's top producers, and has worked on deals for many of its biggest corporate clients.
