Kid Gleason (William J. Gleason) was born on October 26, 1866 in Camden, New Jersey. He made his Major League debut on April 20, 1888 for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1890, his rookie year, he hit .210 with 0 home runs and 17 RBI. Gleason played for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Perfectos, Baltimore Orioles, New York Giants, Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 22 year career.

Most people believe that Kid Gleason's best season was 1897, when he stole 43 bases, hit for a .319 average and knocked in 106 runs.
