Kevin Garnett needs to pull an Iverson right now

Ever since I started writing for the best blog in the history of the information superhighway, I have consistently called for Kevin Garnett to dump the Timberpuppies and head for higher ground. In the wake of Allen Iverson's departure and Minnesota's absolute failure at notching which would have instantly been the most talented teammate Garnett has ever had: I'm renewing the call.

It's clear to me that the Timberwolves don't know the meaning of the word "leverage". Every team that dealt with the Sixers immediately had leverage on them due to their furious attempt to get rid of him. The T-Wolves could have realistically gotten Iverson and only had to give up Ricky Davis, Mark Blount and one first round pick.

But let's keep in mind what franchise we're talking about. The same franchise that could have drafted Ray Allen. The same franchise that didn't keep Sam Cassell and who Latrell Sprewell scampered away from never to be seen again.

Meanwhile Garnett is left to fend for himself, having to be forced to push himself into 5th gear every single night and have at least 20 and 10 for the T-Wolves to have a chance. With Iverson on the trading block, I thought what I'm sure every Minnesota fan thought of : Here's a golden opportunity for Minnesota to proclaim their loyalty to Garnett by deed rather than word.

Opportunity knocked on Minnesota's door and was denied access.

Again!!

To make matters worse, Iverson landed on a team in the same division as the Timberpuppies, which means Kevin Garnett will have to be forced to look at the Nuggets sideline and be reminded of what would have been, could have been and should have been.

Kevin Garnett garners tremoundous praise from me as well as a bunch of others for his unparalled loyalty especially in an age in which that trait is very limited in all circles. But he must realize that the Timberpuppies are as cheap as a quarter water at the corner store. And if this franchise thinks that it can compete in the powerful Western conference without a significant upgrade in a mediocre roster, then they also must think that Britney Spears can sing as well.

There's a reason why throughout this article and others I have referred to Minnesota as the Timberpuppies. With the lack of aggression on the court by every player except Garnett and the lack of aggression in pursuing significant upgrades such as Iverson, I cannot in good conscience possibly call this franchise by it's standard name. A wolf aggressively stalks his prey with reckless abandon on a consistent basis. This franchise runs away from adversity and change like.....puppies.

Despite his troublesome nature, Iverson showed a great deal of loyalty to the 76ers and insisted on staying even when they were trying to trade him away. But he finally realized that there wasn't a light at the end of the tunnel. Garnett must come to the same conclusion at some time.

And that time is now.

Kevin Garnett is a true teammate, and he has class. He will not pull an Iverson. Nor should he.

But how long can he put up with the waywardness of this franchise?

Not the mention the fact that AI holds that he didn't demand a trade.

I actually wouldn't blame KG if he demanded to get out of Minnesota. if he wants to go elsewhere for a shot at an NBA title, I can't deny him that. He's always truck me as one of the most unselfish players in the game, so why not let him go pursue a ring if he wants? Cause he sure as hell won't win one with the Timberwolves.

K.G. is too classy to demand a trade. However, that does not mean that he SHOULD demand a trade. Minnesota has stolen 11 years of his career. They have given him a mockery of a cast of teammates since he came into the league, and as an organization they have screwed KG over and over. If he ever wants a chance to play on a team that can do more than a first round exit from the playoffs, then he needs to get out of Minnesota.

If they fire McHale, and get someone who cares, it would help him greatly. He has McCants and Foye and Blount, all of which are developing into good players. He is on a young team, and will soon compete again

Well obviously that organization has a loyalty to McHale that probably runs deeper than theirs to KG. So the chances of the TPups dumping McHale and keeping KG look slim.

Americans don't seem to be trying hard enough in trying to fix their poor international image. There's many things that the United States could do to help repair their poor international image. Learn that there's actually other countries in the world other than you, convert to the metric system, find out where Australia is, learn to strengthen your relations with your few allies especially Australia, stop being so ignorant, stop being bible-bashing conservatives, stop condemning communism without first condemning capitalism, stop being warmongers, etc. etc.

Everyone is forgetting that Minnesota missed out on a whole bunch of draft picks because of an illegal contract agreement with Joe Smith. Clearly one of the mismanaged organizations in all of sports. Then again, you can say that for so many NBA teams, Knicks, 76ers, etc...

They lose out on picks wit the Joe Smith Fiasco, then waste another pick on Nudi Ebi over Jerry Stackhouse. They compile a good team and '04, it falls apart, and instead of making a good deal for themselves, they trade Sam Cassell to LAC for a bunch of crap, Marko Jaric, and give them a first round pick. Then they trade Sczerbiak and Olowokandi to BOS for Davis, Blount, and Banks who ends up the next year in PHX. They also traded another first round pick here. McHale is a Dumbass and needs to go before this team can get anywhere, but Taylor is worse; he admitted that he has low expectations for McHale. The Knicks have chemestry problems, the Wolves have nothing, not even anything to trade without having to hit the reset button entirely.

As a fan of several teams who benfited wildly from athletes demanding trades (Patrick Roy, Eric Lindros which netted Peter Forsberg and a slew of others for the Avs/Nords, John Elway stating he'd never play with the Colts, and now Iverson) I say demand away. Chances are you could wind up here in Denver. Hmmmmmmmmmm, what are the chances the Nuggets could trade for Garnet and create a holy trinity of Melo, AI, and KG?

No way that could ever happen cap wise. Garnett is the highest payed player in the league and the Nuggets just moved their big chip expiring contract, ironically enough it was Joe Smith. The only logical place for KG to wind up at this point is probably Boston, especially since Pierce is going to miss the next few weeks they need to make a move.
