[edit] Biography
Kentwan Balmer attended the University of North Carolina where he majored in African American history and communications. He played defensive tackle for the Tar Heels. During his four years (2004-2007), North Carolina only reached one bowl game: the 2004 Continental Tire Bowl, where they lost 37-24 to Boston College.
During Balmer's senior season, 2007, he was named Second-Team All-ACC, and Honorable Mention PFW All-American.
[edit] Scouting Report
The biggest knock on Balmer is that he doesn't have the size to be a regular NFL defensive tackle and doesn't have the speed to be a regular defensive end. However, in college he was versatile and could play both positions when called upon. He has the quickness to make plays in the backfield at tackle, but lacks top-end speed necessary for a defensive end to turn the corner. Balmer's a very athletic player and a relentless pass rusher. Durability is another major question mark, and Balmer will need to prove he can stay healthy.
