Born on March 5, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kent Tekulve (Kenton Charles Tekulve) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 16 year career. Tekulve broke into the bigs on May 20, 1974 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 2.25 ERA in 56 innings pitched in 1975, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Kent Tekulve's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1979, when he posted a 2.75 ERA, won 10 games, notched 31 saves and struck out 75 batters. However, others believe that it was 1978, when he posted a 2.33 ERA, notched 31 saves and struck out 77 batters.
