Born on August 23, 1918 in Burnsville, North Carolina, Ken Holcombe (Kenneth Edward Holcombe) played for the New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Browns and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 6 year career. Holcombe broke into the bigs on April 27, 1945 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 1.79 ERA in 55.1 innings pitched in 1945, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ken Holcombe's best season was 1951, when he posted a 3.78 ERA and won 11 games.
