Ken Griffey Jr.: Injured AGAIN!

Yep, it's true. Cincinnati Reds' outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. will be out for the rest of the season. He strained his groin in Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs when he attempted to field Derrek Lee's ground ball to the outfield. In sudden pain, he was forced to make an underhand throw to the infield and left the game after he spent several minutes laying on the field being evaluated by trainers. The original diagnosis was a strained lower abdomen.

"It's too bad, he had a nice year," general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "He was very durable and stayed healthy. He put up some nice numbers. We appreciated everything he does on and off the field."

It is definitely a shame to see Griffey injured. He has done such a great job with the Reds this year. This season, he batted .277 with 30 home runs and 93 RBIs. He also passed a few big home run hitters down the road over the past few months, and has been able to reach sixth all-time in home runs with 593. He will, most likely, be the sixth person to reach the "600 home run" milestone in April/May 2008.

Griffey also played in 144 games this season, which is his most since playing 145 games for Cincinnati in 2000. Between 2001-06, he endured eight trips to the disabled list and had a couple of career-threatening injuries. Although this injury isn't career threatening and it doesn't really affect the Reds since they aren't in playoff contention, Ken Griffey Jr. is still injured. I'm starting to think that Griffey is jinxed. How many more injuries can you get in one period of time?

Ken Griffey, you had a very nice season. We'll definitely miss you, and we hope that you do well for Cincinnati next season.

He was an injury waiting to happen in all honesty. He looked bad on the ball Theriot hit right before the Lee single, misplaying it allowing Theriot to take second. You could tell as soon as he went to thrwo on the Lee ball he was hurt, his legs were too far apart and being fragile, gave way. Fortunately for him and the Reds, they weren't playing for anything anyway, so he can rehab and come back strong (?) next season.

I don't think he'll come back as strong as people say he will though. Hopefully, he will do somewhat good (for a 38 year old at least) next season. But, look at his stats in August. He can still do a lot for his team. .346 AVG, 4 HR, 19 RBIs, .992 OPS. He did pretty good that month, and then he just slumped after that. Hopefully, he can do well though...

By the way, the key to this story is this quote: "The best way I can describe it is it felt like somebody bungee jumped off my right nut," Griffey said.

I'm curious as to how this is newsworthy. If Griffey completed a season, that would be news.

At least Griffey played further into season than usual before injury. Without the injury he may have passed Aaron before Bonds or shortly after. Makes me respect Cal Ripken even more for being able to play everday for so many years.

Some things just can't be true Niteowl. It sucks that Griffey Jr. had the worst luck that a player who had the potential to break Aaron's record could ever have. Eight times in less than 6 years? 2 of those injuries were also almost career ending. He definitely one of the greatest players to EVER play the game though...

If he only could have stayed healthy I believe that he would have been the Homerun leader without an *.

Poor Griffey...he's been my favorite player, always has been since I was a little kid but he can't stop getting hurt...if he kept healthy, this could have been one of the best summers in baseball history with him and Bonds battling for the all time HR record

And with Griffey being much much younger than Barry Bonds, Griffey would've eventually won.

THIS HAS BEEN HIS IMAGE, GRIFFEY WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ALL-TIME HOME RUN LEADER IN BELIEVETH OF MANY, IF HE WASN'T GETTING INJURED.

Turn your caps key off. And what the hell does "believeth" mean? Is Rev. Stiles around for explanation?
