Ken Griffey Jr.: Injured AGAIN!

Yep, it's true. Cincinnati Reds' outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. will be out for the rest of the season. He strained his groin in Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs when he attempted to field Derrek Lee's ground ball to the outfield. In sudden pain, he was forced to make an underhand throw to the infield and left the game after he spent several minutes laying on the field being evaluated by trainers. The original diagnosis was a strained lower abdomen.
"It's too bad, he had a nice year," general manager Wayne Krivsky said. "He was very durable and stayed healthy. He put up some nice numbers. We appreciated everything he does on and off the field."
It is definitely a shame to see Griffey injured. He has done such a great job with the Reds this year. This season, he batted .277 with 30 home runs and 93 RBIs. He also passed a few big home run hitters down the road over the past few months, and has been able to reach sixth all-time in home runs with 593. He will, most likely, be the sixth person to reach the "600 home run" milestone in April/May 2008.
Griffey also played in 144 games this season, which is his most since playing 145 games for Cincinnati in 2000. Between 2001-06, he endured eight trips to the disabled list and had a couple of career-threatening injuries. Although this injury isn't career threatening and it doesn't really affect the Reds since they aren't in playoff contention, Ken Griffey Jr. is still injured. I'm starting to think that Griffey is jinxed. How many more injuries can you get in one period of time?
Ken Griffey, you had a very nice season. We'll definitely miss you, and we hope that you do well for Cincinnati next season.
